"The true lover did not need anything from the beloved"
This is a quote from a favorite blog of mine... and the blogger was actually quoting a book (Saving Paradise: How Christianity Traded Love of This World for Crucifixion and Empire by Rita Brock and Rebecca Parker).
I love this quote... I think it the most accurate description of Love... Aka God. He does not need anything from us... there's no, well you didn't do this so I'm not gonna do that. No jealousy, no comparing,no lies, nothing forced, no expectations.. its just.. Love. Simple. He loves us. He does not expect anything from us. He just Loves. He understands perspective and transparency. He gives freely without expecting anything back.
What if we did that? What would happen if even just in our marriages, we loved without needing. How would your spouse react to that?? WHEW!! I know wouldn't know what to do. :)
What about other relationships? Best friends or even developing friendships... what if you loved without expecting anything from them? It sounds so... Christ-like?? hmmmm I call it tapping into our true identity.. Love.
Mmmmm it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside to think about it.

interesting and thought provoking...I think what happens with most people, is that start out giving a person everything and that person eventually takes advantage of them and the love hey so freely give away!
But if you have no expectations or conditions of any kind then... you wouldn't care what the other person did bc you'd understand their situation and why they do that and love them even more!
yes, but as humans it is in our nature to be assuming and guarding of our heart. If we didn't feel these things then it would be safe to say that the fall of Adam and Eve never happened and therefore condemned man to having unchristian attributes. But in the garden, we started there with our doubts of love when we accepted that stupid apple! I do agree that we should strive to be more Christ like. There is only one God and His Son. I do like this post..It got me really thinking this morning!
I love this post and completely agree. We need to love without expecting anything in return. False expectations lead to disappointment, judgement, resentment and anger.
Even though sin was brought into the world, that doesn't mean we should not try to give love without any expectations. Yes, sometimes we will fall short. I'm not saying that won't happen, BUT to use the the excuse or justification that it's human nature...because sin was brought into the world doesn't mean we can't love without expectations. I think that too many people use the apple to justify things as 'human nature'. That is a trap I try my best to avoid.
If we never fully try wholeheartedly, then where does that leave us?
Blessings to you and your family,
M
